The FMCSA has announced a major change that will impact both drivers and trucking companies: paper medical certificates will no longer be valid starting June 23, 2025. This move aims to streamline compliance and reduce administrative errors.
So, what’s changing?
As of the deadline:
Certified medical examiners will submit exam results electronically to the FMCSA.
The FMCSA will forward those results to state licensing agencies.
Drivers will no longer need to submit paper copies of their medical certificates.
Carriers will no longer need to manually verify the examiner’s credentials.
What this means for you:
📌 Until June 23, 2025
Drivers must still carry and submit a valid paper certificate to their state DMV.
Carriers must verify that the medical examiner is listed in the National Registry and that the certificate is up to date.
📌 After June 23, 2025
✔️ The process becomes automated.
✔️ Less paperwork for carriers.
✔️ Greater responsibility on the medical examiner’s side.
Key Recommendations:
✅ Make sure your certificate is valid and current.
✅ Use only FMCSA-approved medical examiners.
✅ As a company, review your internal compliance procedures.
📲 At Trucking Services and Logistics, we’ll help you stay fully compliant through every step.
